Education

Dr. Reinsvold has taught science and science education to K-12 teachers, undergraduates, and graduate students at Purdue University and University of Northern Colorado. Her research focuses on power relations between educators and students, and how the discourse interactions support student understanding of science. Her academic work and research enabled her to successfully develop, secure, and direct over $10M in grant projects that support P-20 students, especially high-need students to develop understanding of mathematics and science. Through these funded projects, she directed complex activities for large groups of educators and students that involved the establishment of Internal Review Board applications, contracts, financial accountability, delivery of effective instructional practices for participants, data collection processes, and reporting structures for the duration of the projects. Dr. Reinsvold currently serves as Project Director, Co-PI, for a $1.8M  U.S. Dept. of Ed. Office of English Language Acquisition National Professional Development grant, Mathematics and Science Teaching for English Learners: a project serving over 60 educators and impacting over 1500 students. She has expanded this experience to support programs and activities that improve the persistence and graduation of high-need undergraduates in STEM programs at ÌðÐÄÊÓƵapp. She collaborates with ÌðÐÄÊÓƵapp STEM program directors to identify and develop funding projects (STEM freshmen support structures and scholarships) to support the recruitment and retention of high-need students in STEM areas.  She collaborated with ÌðÐÄÊÓƵapp’s STEM directors and chairs to secure a ÌðÐÄÊÓƵapp Commitment at the White House College Opportunity Day of Action that establishes effective practices for student persistence and graduation.
