      • Note: Catalog course description is limited to 30 words.
  • Co-Requisites/Prerequisites
      • Note: Banner will check for prerequisite or co-requisite courses and students will be blocked from registration unless they have either completed or are enrolled in the required prerequisite(s)/co-requisite(s).
  • Course Objectives/Outcomes

    Include desired learning objectives/outcomes;

    • Focus Learning Objectives / Outcomes on what you want students to demonstrate (knowledge, skills).
    • Use verbs indicating measurable student performance (knowledge, skill, or disposition) for Learning Objectives / Outcomes.
    • Contain objectives and assessments that align with the applicable standards for accreditation.
  • Professional Standards
    • Include a syllabus guide at the end of the syllabus.  The syllabus guide needs to align course objectives with the designated standards as required by the state:
      • CO Teacher Quality Standards 5.0
      • Licensure Area Standards
      • CO EL Standards (5.09-5.12)
  • Outline of Course Content
    • Include major content topics with main subdivisions.
  • Course Requirements
    • Course requirements can include: exams, papers, participation, presentations, lab technique, skill performance, and projects.
    • Include percentages assigned to various requirements on each proposed syllabus so the students understand how the final grade of the course is earned.
  • Method of Evaluation
     
    • Letter graded or S/U graded; S/U graded must be stated in the course description on New Course/Modification form
    • Include a grade level percentage breakdown on the syllabus.
  • Required Texts and/or Required Reading List
     
    • List required textbooks, technology requirements and other materials (packets, programs, Internet access, etc.) with information about editions, volumes, and other details.

Personal Liability

It is each teacher candidate’s choice to determine if they wish to purchase additional liability coverage. Several professional organizations, including but not limited to the Colorado Education Association, the Council for Exceptional Children, and the National Education Association, offer personal – professional liability insurance that can be purchased by the teacher candidate at their expense.

Liability Statement pertaining to field experiences 

(Applicable only to unpaid field related requirement such as practicum, service learning, intern, student teaching.)

ÌðÐÄÊÓƵapp purchases insurance that provides liability coverage to teacher candidates (subject coverage limitations and deductibles of the applicable insurance policy) for claims made against the teacher candidate while they are acting in the course and scope of their responsibilities in field experience. Such coverage is subject to limitations and exclusions for, among other things, alleged intentional acts and other uncovered claims. 

In addition, the teacher candidate, during their practice teaching in a school is deemed an employee of the school district for the purposes of workers’ compensation and liability insurance as provided for other school employees.
