Campus Tree Trails
New additions of tree species are being added to the self-guided campus tree tours at the University of Northern Colorado.
The updates include newly planted trees around the Campus Commons as well as European Larch trees planted in the Carter Hall north lawn (image at right shows example of an European Larch). Tour participants will find 106 different types of trees.
Trees that are selected for the trails reflect Colorado native trees, historically significant trees, state champion trees, unique trees and trees that have significant horticultural value, such as flowering, ornamental, shade and special plantings.
It takes about an hour to walk each of the three trails. Every trail has its own kiosk, map guide and holder with a QR code that takes users to the interactive Tree Tour website.
The Landscaping and Grounds team reviews the trail marker posts and trail guides for updates every four to five years.
