Bernie Sanders and AOC Bring “Fighting Oligarchy” Tour to Greeley

In a move that surprised many locals, two of the country’s most high-profile progressive politicians made a rare stop in Greeley this past Friday as part of their national “Fighting Oligarchy” tour.

Senator Bernie Sanders and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez held a town hall at the University of Northern Colorado’s Bank of Colorado Arena, where they addressed a packed house of supporters, calling for economic justice and an end to what they described as corporate control over American democracy.

The “Fighting Oligarchy” tour is aimed at elevating the voices of working-class Americans, often in communities overlooked by mainstream political campaigns. While major cities like Denver were obvious stops on the tour, Greeley’s inclusion raised eyebrows—at least until the crowd showed up.

And show up they did.

Estimates place total attendance at over 10,000 people, with thousands forming an overflow crowd outside the arena after the venue reached capacity. According to organizers, more people were turned away than made it inside.

Sanders and Ocasio-Cortez both spoke forcefully about income inequality, corporate influence, and the need to uplift local economies.

“The American people are saying loud and clear—we will not accept an oligarchic form of society.” Sanders said.

For a town more often associated with its cattle industry than with national political headlines, the event marked a major moment.

Whether this visit marks the beginning of a broader movement in smaller communities like Greeley remains to be seen. But as the crowds cleared and the music faded, one thing was certain: Greeley won’t forget this day anytime soon.
